The Australian Department of Defence provides a comprehensive overview of each type of military record and where they may be obtained. It covers Air Force, Army and Navy and is for both historical records and those after 1973.
Ex ADF members can access their own service records, and these include full copies of personal and health documents as well as a service report.
Other records available include compensation records and ADF training records and civilian recognition.
Personal Records through the periods of WW1 through Vietnam are available at the National Archives. Served and discharged records are available through the Department of Veterans Affairs prior to 1952/1947 depending on branch.
